Spring Break Arrests - Crackdown

Here is a quick new report by a local television station where they outline law enforcement plans for Spring Break.



Pinellas County Police and Law Enforcement Officials in Pinellas County say they will crackdown on during spring break this year. Arrests by police are expected for Possession of Cannabis, Marijuana, DUI,Open Containers, and Under Age Drinking. The legal drinking age is 21 in Florida.

Tampa Bay DUI law enforcement predicts many DUI arrests, perhaps a record this holiday season starting with Halloween. Halloween falls Saturday , a first since 1998. Bars are open an extra hour since daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday. People will get an extra hour until closing time. Those 2 factors equal increased opportunities for Driving Under the Influence charges. Other jurisdictions in Hillsborough, Polk, Pinellas, and Pasco counties can expect the same.

St Petersburg DUI Cop Notches 1000th Arrest

For those of you keeping score at home, the police keep score too, notwithstanding their general denials when testifying in court. According to a local news report "the arrest marked a personal milestone. It was his 1,000th DUI arrest, the most department veterans can remember by an officer."

Treating arrests like a sport, the officer stated: "Let's go fishing," as he cruised through the 34th Street corridor, a local hot spot.

DUI Florida Actual Physical Control

DUI Florida Attorney Lawyer TampaA Florida Deputy Sheriff reported that he found a woman inside the trunk of her broken down vehicle. The woman said she had put herself in her own trunk. She was not seen driving or behind the wheel, so police did not arrest her or charge her with DUI. Florida law 316.193 requires "actual physical control" a finding that the defendant was behind the steering wheel in order to be able to arrest the person for driving under the influence.

Pinellas DUI Attorney - Court Costs and Fines

Pinellas DUI Attorney - Pinellas DUI Pinellas DUI Attorney Casey Ebsary reports that Judge William H Overton has announced the new minimum fines and Court Costs for Pinellas DUI cases. They are:

$745.50 for a first offense,
$1,008 for a second offense (or 1st offense enhanced), and
$1,537 for a third offense (or 2nd offense enhanced).

This does not include costs for Florida DUI Traffic Education / Florida DUI School.

Florida DUI Update - This just in from Florida. As previously reported here, a Florida breath machine has malfunctioned. One celebrity had a first breath test of .081. Second try - .074. Police now say the machine used in the first test was broken, the results were inaccurate.

Wolfpack takes bite out of drunk drivers

Pinellas County deputies are cracking down on drunk drivers this weekend.

The sheriff's office released the results from operation DUI Wolfpack. Checkpoints were conducted Friday and Saturday mornings throughout the county.

Deputies arrested seven people for suspicion of DUI and issued seven DUI citations. Deputies also booked other traffic violations involving speeding, aggressive driving, seat belt, driver's license, registration and insurance violations.

In all, deputies issued 57 citations and made 11 arrests.
