DUI Checkpoints

"A DUI sobriety checkpoint will be set up in Lee County some time this weekend.

The law enforcement agencies aren't saying just when or where it will be - except that it will happen any time beginning Friday.

A Lee County Sheriff's Office statement outlines what the checkpoint is for:

* Remove impaired drivers from the roadway.

* Reduce the likelihood impaired drivers will operate their vehicles on our roadways.

* Heighten awareness.

* Educate the public on the dangers of drunk driving.

The Sheriff's Office will run the checkpoint with assistance from the Fort Myers Police Department and Cape Coral Police Department, Lee County Sheriff's Office V.O.I.C.E. Members and Community Service Aides. "
