DUI Polk County

Polk County Democrat: "New Program Offers Less Jail Time To Repeat DUI Drivers
Those arrested and sentenced for multiple counts of drunken driving will have an option that could lessen jail time.

Polk County commissioners approved the hiring of a counselor, probation officer and case manager for a new program that will offer treatment to drunken drivers.
Paid for by a $90,700 grant from Florida Dept. of Transportation and user fees, the program, which is similar to drug court, will allow sentenced drivers to voluntarily join the program, and lessen their jail time.

The program is intended for repeat violators, and while commissioners were hopeful, Commission Chm. Jack Myers said the most important part of the program would be user support."
