Can a person start drinking after the car with an Ignition Interlock gets started?

Re-tests are required as long as the engine is running. The re-test is random and if it's not taken or alcohol is detected above a preset limit, an alarm is activated and remains on until the driver passes the breath test or pulls over and shuts off the engine.

What stops someone else from starting the car with an Interlock for a drunk?

What happens if a person who has been drinking tries to start a car with Ignition Interlock?

If the alcohol level exceeds .05 the driver cannot start the car for five minutes. Two .05 or above readings in a three-hour period causes the 30 minute lockout. The data from the the breath tests are reported to the state.

"The Florida Highway Patrol is planning a sobriety safety checkpoint between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Friday on Navy Boulevard near the old Vince Whibbs dealership in Escambia County, according to a news release by Lt. Steve Preston. About 25 officers are participating, along with the Emerald Coast Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Escambia County deputies, Pensacola Police officers, and Santa Rosa County deputies."
